BRAND HISTORY

The story of Kool Kolored Kid Generation is about transformation , resilience, and the power of turning darkness into light. It didn't begin as the name it bears today. In 2007, while working at the L.A. Film Festival, I was posed with a question by my coworkers: What would I name a band for shock value? In that moment, I dared to challenge the status quo and said, "KKK." But my vision was different; it wasn't about hate, but about unity— "Kool Kolored Kids."
I envisioned a group where people from diverse ethnic backgrounds would come together to create history through their talents. While doubts from others attempted to persuade me otherwise, I preserved the idea, capturing it in a notebook for the future.
In 2017, the concept resurfaced, evolving into "Kool Kolorful Kids," a children's clothing line designed for all kids, celebrating their unique nationalities after watching a GAP commercial . Although this venture faced setbacks, I refused to abandon the idea.
The turning point came in 2019, inspired by a documentary on Netflix of Sam Cooke and the history of the KKK, a symbol of hatred towards people of color. This documentary struck a profound chord within me. It illuminated the incredible potential to reclaim and transform negativity into empowerment.
After months of contemplation and sketching logos, the floodgates of creativity opened. My mission evolved I aimed to redefine how African Americans and people of color were portrayed in the media. I was also troubled by the casual use of the "N-word" among different cultures, an attempt to make a negative word positive.
An epiphany came when I learned about the history of the Swastika, once a symbol of peace for centuries before being twisted by Adolf Hitler into a symbol of hate. This history underscored the power of symbols and words to change the world. It was then that a light bulb went off in my mind, driving me to launch this brand and redefine another negative term, KKK, into a positive force.
The Kool Kolored Kid Generation stands as a testament to our ability to rise above adversity, rewrite the narrative, and inspire and empower all people of color. It's a symbol of transformation, reminding us that we have the power to turn even the darkest history into a brighter future.
